The Dance by Lauri Langston

Music stirs my heart,
warms my limbs,
twitches my feet and swivels my hips.

In my mind,
I leap about in graceful pirouettes,
a dancer for all days.

In dreams,
you spin me about,
my long hair flying.

Feet hardly touch the ground,
your strength keeping me nearly aloft.

Reality is the gravity that drags at me.

Stiff old bones
and thick clay feet
shackle my passion.

We stumble over our age laughing.
